Sometimes, There Is More Than One Way to Restore a Tooth

If one or more of your teeth are severely damaged, decayed, or missing, you may need our help to restore your smile. Even if you aren’t in pain, you should seek treatment because neglecting these issues can lead to more serious oral health issues down the road. Read on to discover two ways we can help you regain a happy, healthy smile.

Crowns Cover Teeth

Crowns are the recommended treatment solution when there isn’t enough tooth remaining for a filling to treat the problem. Tooth structure can be lost due to decay, and chips or cracks. Crowns also serve well to anchor a bridge, cover an implant, recolor, resize or reshape a tooth, and cover a tooth after a root canal.

The crown is typically made of porcelain and it covers the visible portion of your tooth. The goal is to restore, or even improve, the appearance and functionality of the normal tooth as much as possible. Porcelain crowns aren’t noticeable by most people, and you may even forget you have one.

Bridges Replace Missing Teeth

The gap left by a missing tooth can cause remaining teeth to shift and become misaligned. If you have a missing tooth, you may be having difficulty eating and speaking clearly, and that area can be at greater risk for infection and bone deterioration. One solution we offer is the dental bridge.

The typical bridge consists of an artificial tooth, called a pontic, and two crowns. The pontic is attached between the two crowns, and the unit is then cemented onto the teeth on either side of the gap caused by the missing tooth. This creates a fixed, stable replacement for the missing tooth, improving your bite, restoring your confidence in your smile, and preventing future dental issues that could occur if the missing tooth were ignored.

We Provide Both

Crowns and bridges require the same care you would give your natural teeth. With daily brushing and flossing and regular checkups, they can last a lifetime. If you or a loved one has a damaged, misaligned, or missing tooth, call our office today to schedule an examination and find out how a crown or bridge can help you regain confidence in your smile.
